Thoughts in soap bubbles

Written by Kirsikka Kaipainen (28 Apr 2016)

Cognitive defusion, getting distance from your thoughts, is an essential skill in almost any challenging situation in life. When you can see that your thoughts are just thoughts, you don't buy them blindly, and you don't exhaust yourself in struggling with them.

You can observe your thoughts like leaves on a stream, clouds on the sky, cars passing by; or soap bubble in the wind. Check out the video below.

The video is spoken in Finnish, so make sure to turn on the subtitles in the lower right corner.

All our programmes have exercises that help to internalize that you are not your thoughts. Even if you have negative or self-deprecating thoughts, you can do things that matter to you. Some soap bubbles in your mind may reflect thoughts such as "I can't do this", "this won't work", but the other bubbles may glimmer with "this is a good thing", "I can do this", "I want to do this". And you have the freedom to choose which soap bubble you pay attention to.
